On June 24, 2020 President Donald J. Trump issued an important Executive Order on strengthening the American child welfare system. The following memorandum is a response from this faith-based, nationally accredited child welfare agency.
COMPACT® Family Services is headed in the right direction.
Based from Hot Springs, AR and Springfield, MO, Assemblies of God Family Services Agency, d/b/a COMPACT Family Services is the national affiliate child welfare mission of the General Council of the Assemblies of God.
COMPACT wants to express its appreciation for the insight that the President displays in the Executive Order on the critical role that faith-based organizations must play if the 2018 Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) is to ever achieve its admirable prevention goals. Ever since the promulgation of this Act, COMPACT has dedicated its efforts to research, deploy, and monitor evidence-based actions that address these goals, but are also congruent with the unique positioning and calling of the faith community
COMPACT affirms that the Church and its faith-based agencies as commissioned in James 1:27 (NLT), “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress,” are strategically vital to achieving the aims of the Presidential Executive Order.
COMPACT acknowledges that the problem of the American child welfare crisis is complex and impacted by economic poverty, substance abuse and the significant breakdown of the historical family structure model of one husband and wife as best for family and child development.
Over the past seven years, COMPACT has leveraged its historical mission to strategically align with the 21st Century trends and forces in child welfare. COMPACT is poised to make a valuable difference in the next decade. Hall of Fame ice hockey player, Wayne Gretsky once said that the key to his scoring prowess was found in skating to where the puck is going rather than chasing it around the rink. COMPACT’s developmental effort has been aimed toward the trending need of America’s most vulnerable children and families.
COMPACT executive director Jay Mooney notes, “The Presidential Executive Order of June 24, 2020 in part outlines programs of great need for America’s foster care children. I am proud to report that COMPACT is addressing at some level EVERY ONE of those program areas from prevention to permanency! We are headed in the right direction.”
